Make a Candle the Bahamourii Way
Creating a candle the Bahamourii way involves using high-quality materials and embracing the essence of Bahamian culture. Follow these steps to craft your own signature candle:
Materials Included
Natural wax (soy or coconut wax)
Candle wick (cotton or wooden)
Essential oils or fragrance oils (Bahamian-inspired scents)
Color dye (optional, for a pop of color)
Double boiler or microwave-safe container
Candle container (glass jars, tins, or molds)
Thermometer
Stirring utensil (wooden spoon or stick)
Steps to Create Your Candle
Prepare Your Workspace: Clear a flat surface and gather all materials.
Melt the Wax: Use a double boiler or microwave to melt the natural wax until it reaches about 180°F (82°C).
Add Fragrance: Once melted, remove from heat and add your chosen essential or fragrance oils. The recommended amount is typically 6-10% of the wax weight.
Add Color (Optional): If you want to color your candle, add dye at this stage and stir until fully incorporated.
Prepare the Wick: Secure the wick to the bottom of your container using a wick sticker or a dab of melted wax.
Pour the Wax: Allow the wax to cool to about 150°F (65°C) before carefully pouring it into the prepared container, ensuring the wick remains centered.
Cool and Set: Allow the candle to cool completely at room temperature. This may take several hours.
Trim the Wick: Once set, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch above the wax surface.
Enjoy Your Candle: Light your Bahamourii candle and enjoy the warm, inviting scents inspired by the Bahamas!
