Make a Candle the Bahamourii Way

Creating a candle the Bahamourii way involves using high-quality materials and embracing the essence of Bahamian culture. Follow these steps to craft your own signature candle:

Materials Included

  • Natural wax (soy or coconut wax)

  • Candle wick (cotton or wooden)

  • Essential oils or fragrance oils (Bahamian-inspired scents)

  • Color dye (optional, for a pop of color)

  • Double boiler or microwave-safe container

  • Candle container (glass jars, tins, or molds)

  • Thermometer

  • Stirring utensil (wooden spoon or stick)

Steps to Create Your Candle

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Clear a flat surface and gather all materials.

  2. Melt the Wax: Use a double boiler or microwave to melt the natural wax until it reaches about 180°F (82°C).

  3. Add Fragrance: Once melted, remove from heat and add your chosen essential or fragrance oils. The recommended amount is typically 6-10% of the wax weight.

  4. Add Color (Optional): If you want to color your candle, add dye at this stage and stir until fully incorporated.

  5. Prepare the Wick: Secure the wick to the bottom of your container using a wick sticker or a dab of melted wax.

  6. Pour the Wax: Allow the wax to cool to about 150°F (65°C) before carefully pouring it into the prepared container, ensuring the wick remains centered.

  7. Cool and Set: Allow the candle to cool completely at room temperature. This may take several hours.

  8. Trim the Wick: Once set, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch above the wax surface.

  9. Enjoy Your Candle: Light your Bahamourii candle and enjoy the warm, inviting scents inspired by the Bahamas!

Tips for Success

  • Experiment with different scents to find your perfect blend.

  • Ensure the workspace is well-ventilated when using fragrance oils.

  • Consider adding decorative elements like dried flowers or shells for a unique touch.

By following these steps, you can create a candle that embodies the spirit of the Bahamas, perfect for personal use or as a thoughtful gift.
